Originally, its founders – Tobias Lutke, Daniel Weinand, and Scott Lake – embarked on a venture named Snowdevil, an online store dedicated to snowboarding outfits. However, the e-commerce systems at the time fell short of meeting their comprehensive needs. Leveraging his expertise as a software engineer, Lutke took charge of crafting a bespoke digital trade solution. Within a remarkable two-month timeframe in 2004, the Snowdevil store was brought to life.

Two years later, the enterprising trio officially launched their e-commerce system as an independent entity, christening it Shopify. Their mission was clear – to empower individuals by providing them with an intuitive platform to establish, operate, and expand their online stores.

As time passed on, Shopify has thrived and undergone significant enhancements. In 2009, the introduction of API tools allowed programmers to create software tailored for Shopify stores, with the added opportunity to sell them on the Shopify App Store. Subsequently, the Shopify app made its debut on the Apple App Store in the following year.

A major milestone was achieved in 2013 with the release of Shopify’s proprietary payment system, streamlining transactions and eliminating the need for external payment gateways. The logotype consists of a slightly italicized lowercase inscription with the brand’s title. To the right of the nameplate, the company’s watermark finds its place. It features a 3D shopper with two semicircular handles. At the center of its front side, a big letter ‘s’ is drawn.


Shopify Symbol

The graphics of their corporate is characterized by three main hues: black, white, and green. The watermark uses light green for the bag front and dark green for the side portion. The letter ‘s’ shines in a white hue on the front of the shopper. Finally, the wordmark is written using sleek black color.

The Shopify logo’s nameplate is composed utilizing the official script, Myriad Bold Italic. The wordmark is skillfully presented in a lowercase format without serifs, with slight spacing between the thick characters.
