The Dodge Company is one of the most recognizable and largest American car brands that was founded at the end of the 19th century by John and Horace Dodge. At the beginning the company dealt with the production of parts and engines for other manufacturers, including Ford, and in 1914 brothers began producing their own vehicles.
Meaning and History
Numerous intriguing and strange logos have been used by the company all through the past hundred years and each model held a different logo. Throughout its history, the company created logos that would reflect main elements that the company focuses on: speed, strength, fearlessness, dignity.
1910 – 1914
The company began to exist with an emblem with two English letters D and B in the middle of a double rounded gold metal frame with six small circles around the perimeter. After the company switched to the car production in November 1914, it was decided to change the emblem.
1914 – 1928
The new logo was created before the first car appeared. It featured two interconnected triangles, a six-pointed star, the initials DB, and the words “Dodge Brothers Motor Vehicles” in a circle. All this was placed on a world map, which symbolized the company’s readiness for international development. This logo did not change or transform until 1928.
1928 – 1955
The complex and ambiguous logo was replaced by the simple and uncomplicated text with the company name. All letters were capitalized, written in black type with small rounding.
1955 – 1962
Another change took place in 1955. Two triangles were retained but without outlines. This made this figures more dynamic, reminiscent of birds. The logo was created to symbolize speed, future orientation and reliability at the same time.
1962 – 1968
The black monochrome logo returned again in 1962. This time it was based on three small triangles, which were separated from each other and pointed in different directions.
1964 – 1993
They started using the company’s name as a logo again in 1964. This time the color was red, and only the first letter was capitalized. Compared to the first text logo, this version had a rigorous look, sharper lines and less space.
1969 – 1993
Small changes were added to the previous logo in 1969. The red text at the top and bottom has now been surrounded by red rectangles. In the middle of the upper rectangle was a white pentagon with a thin five-pointed star inside.
1993 – 2009
The head of a ram appeared on the logo in 1994, which is still associated with this brand. This element was depicted in red and the company’s name written in classic black appeared under it. All letters were in capital and with sharp corners.
The ram’s head signified power, strength, fearlessness and masculinity. This symbol was associated with Dodge RAM trucks.
