Infiniti – Japanese brand of luxury cars owned by Nissan. Its story begins in 1985, but the name was chosen 2 years later. The first Infiniti car entered the market in 1989. Initially, the Japanese sold their cars only on the North American market. Currently, they are on the Russian, Canadian, Polish, Chinese and Japanese markets.
Meaning and History
Nissan, which owns the Infinity car brand, has attached great importance to the selection of symbols for its creations. This is evidenced even by the fact that since the creation of the company in 1989, its logo has not changed.
What does the Infiniti car symbol mean?
While developing the Infinity logo, the producers decided to repeat the history of the new brand’s creation and become a great incentive for its development. Therefore, the emblem in a way repeats the character and appearance of the first car, symbolizing the road going into the distance, hiding the infinity. Some believe that the logo symbolizes Mount Fuji in Japan, that is, “the highest point of quality and technical achievement.” There are even those who compare the logo to Pac-Man.
1989 – 2004
Throughout the years, the Infiniti symbol hasn’t changed at all. Its original version, introduced at the end of the 1980s, featured a horizontally-oriented oval with the A-like cut out at the bottom, symbolizing the road going to the horizon. The emblem was placed above the uppercase inscription in a modern sans-serif typeface, with quite a significant space between the characters. All elements of the original logo were drawn in flat black lines.
2004 – 2023
With the redesign of 2004, the company decided to bring some volume to its logo, so the emblem was redrawn in a 3D way, with black replaced by gradient silver-metallic. Although, it was not very glossy and shiny, and still looked strict and elegant. As for the lettering part, it remained black, but the typeface was switched with a more full-shaped one, with the letters standing closer, than in the previous badge.
2023 – now
In 2023 Infiniti decided to bring back its original version, drawn in flat black, but with both the emblem and the wordmark enlarged. The emblem was not changed at all, while the font of the lettering got slightly modified. The lines got a bit thinner than on the previous logo, and the bars of the “F” now feature different lengths.
Emblem and Symbol
The Infiniti logo consists of a silver ellipse with two intersecting lines breaking its continuity. These two connecting lines represent precisely the road to the horizon (represented by an ellipse), an endless road to the rising sun, that is what the Infiniti logo stands for.
