DeLorean Motor Company (DMC) is an automobile company founded by John DeLorean in 1975. DMC is best known for its only model released, the DeLorean DMC-12 sports car with a stainless steel body and gullwing doors.
Meaning and history
Despite the fact that the company ceased to exist, and after 13 years returned to the automotive industry, the company’s logo did not experience strong changes.
1975 – 1982
The first company logo was invented by John DeLorean and consisted of the company name in silver with white reflections. All letters were similar to each other. They were distinguished only by the number and arrangement of the lines inside. The letter ‘D’ was a mirror reflection of the letter ‘C’. By 1982, the company declared bankruptcy.
1995 – 2008
In 1995, mechanic Stephen Wynne founded his independent company called DeLorean Motor Company and shortly thereafter acquired the remaining assets as well as the stylized DMC logo. Now the logo has the same shape as before, only now it is in black color only. Under the abbreviation is the full name of the company ‘DeLorean Motor Company’.
2008 – 2022
The logo consists of 3 letters “DMC” written in the original design font. The letters are written with a 3D effect. It seems that they are made of metal. At the same time, it seems that the letter “D” is a mirror image of the letter “C”. There is also the signature “DE LOREAM MOTOR COMPANY” under the three letters.
2022 – Today
The 2022 logo is a highly simplified volume-less version of the previous logo without a signature at the bottom.
Emblem and symbol
The company logo is quite memorable, laconic and at the same time not complicated. A company symbol is an example of how a simple typeface can make a great logo. All letters of the abbreviation are symmetrical and resemble small magnets.
